Greetings:

Welcome to the website of The Council of Chief Judges of the State Courts of Appeal. The Council was formed in 1980 as a vehicle for collective consultation and as a conduit for the exchange of ideas on court administration, rules and methods of procedure, and the organization and operation of the

state courts of appeal. As an affiliate of The National Center for State Courts, the Council conducts educational and training programs and maintains a collaborative liaison with The Conference of Chief Justices, thereby enabling it to share ideas that are intellectually stimulating and programs that are supremely functional and utilitarian.

Our various committees support the noble work of the Council throughout the year. The Education Committee unselfishly devotes untold time and energy to ensure the success of our annual meeting; the Newsletter Committee keeps abreast of current activities of our members; the Long Range Planning Committee exercises Solomonic prescience in advising the Executive Committee on issues affecting the long-term stability of the Council; our Administration of Justice Committee provides the Council with input into issues facing the judges and state appellate courts; the Membership Committee is instrumental in solidifying our member base and in recruiting and retaining new members; and, our wordsmiths on the Resolutions Committee give due recognition to deserving members, events and issues which confront us. Finally, the Host Committee works tirelessly in conjunction with the Education Committee to coordinate the educational and social activities of our annual meeting.

The Council's recent annual meeting in Tucson in November 2008 was a resounding success. Justice (Ret.) Sandra Day O'Connor's challenging opening remarks complemented an extraordinary educational experience and invigorating social exchanges among our many colleagues and guests.
